Turangawaewae

SKETCHES.

Images recorded while documenting the landscape across Aotearoa.

" In essence, this is about the joyful & much-loved experience of attempting to capture the magnetic, raw & awe-inspiring beauty of this land.

I am mesmerised by the light and how it enhances or extracts the textural colours on the land.

For me, it is not about perfection, but rather unveiling the essence of our sacred places.

Elemental and wild, the wind blowing black sand across an empty beach marking time, the wind blowing the leaves of trees in a deep green forest amplifying the silence or chasing yellow grasses across an open field, the movements are textural painterly marks + gestures across the frame, like brushstrokes across canvas."

"THE SOUND & THE SILENCE,

THE SEEN & THE UNSEEN,

THE BOUND & THE UNBOUND"

CONVERSATION WITH A MOUNTAIN

Documentation Mt Ruapehu 2016

Sitting with tupuna ancestors, over the years I have been developing my personal relationship with the land, spending time honouring the original Atua in conversation, learning to understand how to hear the whenua again.
